La banda de Birmingham The Clause llegó a Madrid el pasado 25 de marzo de 2026 como parte del festival Inverfest para tocar por primera vez en nuestra ciudad y presentar su álbum debut Victim Of A Casual Thing.
Antes de dar comienzo el concierto, en JALEO! tuvimos el placer de poder entrevistar a Pearce Macca, vocalista principal y guitarrista de The Clause, para hablar de su último trabajo Victim Of A Casual Thing, de su primera gira europea y del futuro de la banda.

Hablamos con el vocalista de The Clause sobre su primer concierto en Madrid
Carla (JALEO!): Estamos en JALEO! con Pearce de The Clause, llegado directamente desde Birmingham. Estamos muy contentas de tenerte aquí. Este es tu primer tour europeo. De hecho, es vuestra primera vez tocando en Madrid. ¿Cómo os sentís?
We’re in JALEO! , we’re here with Pearce from The Clause, coming all the way from Birmingham. We’re really happy to have you here. This is your first European tour. Actually, first time you’re gonna play Madrid. How are you feeling about it?
Pearce (The Clause): Es genial, sí. Es un privilegio estar aquí. Empezamos esta banda siendo niños y, sinceramente, no pensamos que saldríamos de Birmingham. Pero aquí estamos, en Madrid, es una ciudad preciosa. Con muchas ganas del concierto.
It’s good, man, yeah. It’s a privilege to be here. We started this band when we were kids, so we honestly, we didn’t think we’d make it out of Birmingham. And here we are in Madrid, it’s a beautiful city. Looking forward to the gig.
Carla (JALEO!): Tenemos muchas ganas de veros tocar. Habéis tocado antes en Reino Unido, obviamente, con vuestros propios conciertos y como teloneros de otros artistas. ¿Hay algo que esperáis del público europeo o público español que sea diferente al de Reino Unido?
We’re really excited to see you play. Well, you’ve played in the UK before, obviously. You’ve headlined your own shows, you’ve opened for different people. Is there something you expect from European crowds or Spanish crowds to be different from the crowds of the UK?
Pearce (The Clause): Realmente ya hemos tocado en un par de festivales. Tocamos en un festival en Mallorca y también en Barbastro, así que pudimos hacernos a la idea.
We actually, we did a couple of festivals. Well, we did a festival in Mallorca and we played in Barbastro at a festival as well. So we’ve had a little taste.
Carla (JALEO!): Ya sabéis cómo es.
You already know how it is.
Pearce (The Clause): Sí, no puedo mentir. He estado refrescando mi español.
Yeah, I can’t lie, man. I’ve been brushing up on my Spanish.
Carla (JALEO!): ¿Has aprendido algo?
Have you learnt anything?
Pearce (The Clause): Hice cinco años de español en el colegio, lo único que recuerdo es fútbol y golf porque lo decimos igual.
I did five years of it in school and the only thing I remember is football and golf, because it’s the same.

Carla (JALEO!): Empezasteis el tour en noviembre el año pasado, de noviembre a diciembre, y ahora estáis en la segunda parte de la gira. Vais a dar 35 conciertos en total, lo que es una locura e impresionante para una banda sin discográfica o un gran equipo detrás. ¿Cómo es ir de gira siendo un equipo tan pequeño?
You started the tour in November last year, November to December, and now it’s the second leg of the tour. You’re going to do 35 dates in total, which is insane and impressive for a band with no label or no big management. How does it feel touring being such a small team?
Pearce (The Clause): ¿Sabes qué? No lo cambiaría por nada. Tenemos un gran equipo a nuestro alrededor. Nunca hemos sido una banda que busca tener un gran sello o equipo detrás. Tenemos a nuestro equipo y a nuestros amigos porque son como nuestra familia.
You know what? I wouldn’t change it for the world, man. We’ve got a great crew around us. You know, we’ve never really been one for a big major label and a massive team. We’ve, um, we’ve our crew and our friends because they’re like family to us.
Carla (JALEO!): ¿Y hay algo que encontréis difícil como banda en la escena musical independiente?
And is there anything you find challenging as a band being like in the independent music scene?
Pearce (The Clause): Es una batalla cuesta arriba contra esas grandes empresas que tienen todo el dinero y nosotros no tenemos nada. Pero es lo que hay, es una lucha que disfrutamos. Cada día es diferente, pero, ya sabes, no conocemos otra manera de hacerlo.
It’s all an uphill battle fighting against all these, you know, big corporations that have all the money and we have none. But it is what it is, man. We enjoy the fight. Every day is difficult, but, you know, we don’t really know how else to do it.

Carla (JALEO!): Queremos hablar sobre vuestro álbum debut, Victim Of A Casual Thing. La mayoría de canciones hablan sobre amor, y diferentes experiencias del amor. ¿Cuántas de estas canciones están inspiradas en experiencias personales?
Okay, so we want to talk about your debut album, Victim Of A Casual Thing. Most of the songs talk about love and different experiences about love. How many of those songs are inspired by personal experiences?
Pearce (The Clause): Cada canción es como un retrato de una noche, una experiencia, un desamor o cualquier otra cosa desde los 16 hasta ahora. Hay trozos en cada una de las canciones que son partes de mi vida, y ahora ahí están para que el mundo las escuche.
Every single song is like a snapshot of a night, an experience, a heartbreak or whatever, from the age of being about 16 up until now. So there’s bits in every single song that are, you know, lyrically like just pieces of my life. It’s out for the world to listen to.

Carla (JALEO!): ¿Hay alguna que te guste en especial?
Is there any song you’re particularly fond of?
Pearce (The Clause): Mi favorita del álbum cambia cada día, pero probablemente es Exception. Si me preguntas mañana te diré algo diferente.
My favorite on the album changes every day, but I think probably Exception is my favorite. But you’d ask me tomorrow and I’m going to say a different thing.
Carla (JALEO!): ¿Es tu favorita para tocar en directo?
Is that your favorite one to play live?
Pearce (The Clause): Eso creo. También me encanta tocar White Lifelines del álbum. Es una canción rápida.
I think so. I also like playing White Lifelines off the album. It’s fast to get some music.

Pearce Macca confiesa haber empezado a hacer musica gracias a Arctic Monkeys
Carla (JALEO!): Es divertida en directo. Hemos estado escuchando el resto de vuestra discografía y hemos notado influencias de grandes artistas como Arctic Monkeys o Kasabian. ¿Hay alguien en particular que os haya inspirado para hacer este álbum?
Yeah, that’s fun live. We’ve been listening to the rest of your discography as well. We’ve seen influences from big artists such as Arctic Monkeys or Kasabian. Is there anyone in particular that has inspired you when it comes to doing this album?
Pearce (The Clause): Todo el álbum es el resultado de la colección de discos de nuestros padres. Hemos ido robando un poco de sus gustos desde que éramos niños hasta música más actual. Como has mencionado, probablemente para mí Arctic Monkeys es la primera banda que escuché o que recuerdo haber escuchado. Fueron el primer disco que tuve y los que me hicieron coger una guitarra, y creo que eso se nota en cada una de las canciones del álbum. Todo lo de esa era en general, el indie rock and roll británico es un gran punto de referencia para nosotros. También nos encantan bandas como The Rolling Stones, la música de los 60 y la música disco. Nos inspiramos de todas partes. Podría hablar sin parar sobre esto.
The whole album is a product of our parents’ record collection. We are thieving from their stock from since we were kids and new music, I think. I think as you mentioned, probably for me, Artic Monkeys was the first band I ever listened to or can remember listening to. It was the first CD that I owned and made me pick up a guitar and I think naturally it kind of bleeds into all the songs on the record. But everything from that era, great British indie rock and roll, is a big staple point for us. And we love bands like The Rolling Stones as well. We’re massively into a lot of 60s music and disco music. It comes from everywhere. I could talk, I could talk a lot about it.

Carla (JALEO!): Es una gran mezcla de diferentes géneros. Me gusta. ¿Cómo es la playlist que escucháis mientras viajáis?
That is a good mixture of different kinds of genres. I like it. What does your playlist on the road look like?
Pearce (The Clause): ¿Nuestra playlist del bus? Depende de quién esté al mando. Escuchamos mucha música soul. Liam, mi guitarrista, es el experto en eso. Nos encanta Jalen Ngonda, un gran artista soul estadounidense. Nos gusta mantener el bus tranquilo y no emocionarnos muy pronto.
A playlist on the road? Depends who’s on the aux. Tend to listen to a lot of soul music. Liam, my guitarist, is the connoisseur of all that. We’re massively into Jalen Ngonda. Big soul artist coming out of America. We like to keep it quite chill in the van. Not to get too excited too early.
Carla (JALEO!): Para tener un viaje tranquilo en vez de emocionaros demasiado conduciendo.
To have a chill drive instead of getting too excited while driving.
Pearce (The Clause): Exacto, no nos quedaría energía cuando llegásemos aquí, estaríamos dándole duro todo el día.
Yeah, we’d have no energy when we get here. We’re just banging away all day.
Futuro de The Clause tras su primera gira europea
Pearce Macca anuncia tener listo su segundo álbum de estudio
Carla (JALEO!): La gira acaba el mes que viene, que ha durado desde noviembre hasta abril, y eso son seis meses en la carretera. ¿Qué podemos esperar de The Clause una vez acabe?
The tour is coming to an end next month. You spent like from November to April. So that’s six months on the road. What can we expect from The Clause after the tour is done?
Pearce (The Clause): Un segundo álbum, que ya empezamos a escribirlo en cuanto acabamos el primero. Estamos esperando a poner otra vez los pies en la tierra en casa y descansar un poco. Y sí, lo lanzaremos en cuanto lo acabemos. No nos vamos a ninguna parte.
Second album kind of started writing that as soon as the first was wrapped. Just kind of waiting to get our feet back on the ground at home and chill out for a bit. And yeah, we’ll have that out as soon as it’s written. We’re not going away anytime soon.

Carla (JALEO!): Vais a seguir aquí. Eso es genial. ¿Tal vez algún festival?
You’re gonna continue here. That’s great. Maybe any festivals?
Pearce (The Clause): Tenemos una gran temporada de festivales y esperamos poder pasar por Europa. Vamos a tocar en unos cuantos, pero cruzamos los dedos para ir a algunos más. Necesitamos volver a España.
We’ve got a big festival season. Hopefully be hitting up Europe. We’re definitely doing a couple, but fingers crossed we get some more. We need to come back to Spain.
Carla (JALEO!): Exacto. Eso es lo que iba a decir. Espero veros en algún cartel en España.
Exactly. That’s what I was gonna say. I hope to see you in a lineup here in Spain.

Pearce (The Clause): Creo que somos tu nueva banda favorita de la cual aún no has oído hablar. Danos una oportunidad. Sé que somos ingleses, pero, realmente somos buena gente.
I think we’re your new favorite band that you haven’t heard of yet. Take a chance. I know we’re English, but you know, we’re actually nice English people.
